Celebrating 5 Years at Wild Tech with Louwis Venter

Meet Louwis Venter, Executive General Manager of AI Innovation at Wild Tech. As he celebrates 5 years with Wild Tech, we sat down with Louwis to talk about his journey into AI, what drives him, and how he’s helping shape the future of innovation within the business.

Quickfire questions

What hobbies energise you outside of work?

I have a pretty unusual mix of hobbies! I play soccer two to three times a week, I love fishing, especially off my jet ski, and I’m really into strategy games (cards, chess etc)It’s a very mixed bag, but it matches my personality. I get bored easily, so having different hobbies means I get to wear a lot of different hats and keep things interesting.

If your life were a movie or TV series, what genre would it be?

Probably something like Fight Club meets Snatch, definitely more Edward Norton than Brad Pitt. A bit unconventional, a bit chaotic.

Three emojis that describe you:

🙃 Upsidedown smiley
👍 Thumbs up
🍺 The beer emoji (especially on a Friday afternoon)

How would your friends describe you in three words?

Best to ask them 🙃

What’s something people are often surprised to learn about you?

I was married in Vegas!

Are you a foodie or a “placie”?

Definitely a placie. When you travel, the food comes with it anyway! I love exploring new destinations/cultures/ways of life.

Top three favourite destinations:

  • Vanuatu: Raw Paradise
  • Turkey: Full of Adventures
  • Japan: New meets old and absolutely love the culture

Career journey

What was your first real job?

Either as a waiter or working in retail shop

What’s your role at Wild Tech, and what does a typical day look like?

My official title is Executive General Manager, AI and Innovation, but I wear many hats, and I enjoy that.

At the moment, my two biggest responsibilities are:

  • Running the AI & Innovation team, which lets me flex creativity and experiment with new ideas / technologies and set the strategy.
  • Project resourcing, where I get to use my interpersonal skills, network, and instinct to match the right people to the right opportunities.

Was this always the career path you imagined?

Not at all. As a kid, I thought I’d become a pilot. But then technology exploded, and I realised early on that nobody really knew anything, you just needed to know a little more than the next person to look like a genius.

That curiosity, combined with the constant evolution of tech, pulled me in.

What attracted you to this role or industry?

Technology changes so fast that you never get bored.

In the early days, nothing worked, so when it finally did, it felt like solving a massive puzzle. That sense of achievement kept me hooked. And once one puzzle is solved, I immediately look for the next, bigger one.

What do you enjoy most about your work?

Two things:

  • People: I love engaging, collaborating and connecting.
  • Technology: especially understanding where it’s going and how to use it.

I get to live in both worlds, which keeps my work energising and meaningful.

What’s been the biggest learning curve since joining Wild Tech?

Without question, AI.

The pace of advancement is unlike anything I’ve seen. Understanding its strengths, weaknesses, and the best way to apply it has been a massive but exciting learning curve.

Wild Tech culture & team

A moment that made you feel proud to be part of the Wild Tech team

In the very early days, we were all squeezed into our tiny office in Chifley Square. Everyone was hustling. Phones ringing, ideas flying, energy buzzing. I looked around and thought: “This thing has legs. This is going to take off.”

That moment really stuck with me.

How would you describe the culture at Wild Tech to someone thinking of applying?

Young, energetic, and willing to give things a go.

There’s no politics, no heavy hierarchy, and everyone has a voice. You’re trusted to explore different paths, wear different hats, and shape your own destiny. The culture is genuinely one of Wild Tech’s biggest assets.

What’s something the team does really well together?

We laugh, properly laugh. There is a “Work Hard. Play Hard” mentality creating a natural jovial energy.

What makes you feel included and valued?

Having a real voice.

I’m included in decisions, ideas, recommendations, and strategic discussions. And on a practical level, I’ve been given an innovation space that I’ve always wanted, which means a lot.

Looking ahead

What’s next for you?

AI isn’t slowing down, and I plan to ride this wave for at least the next decade.

My big goal?

To help Wild Tech build and launch our own products, true “Wild Tech Originals” that we can take to market and be proud of.

What skill are you currently working on?

Prompting more efficiently.
It might sound simple, but great results in AI come from great prompts. Mastering that skill is crucial.

Best piece of career advice you’ve received:

Time management.
A proper time management course changed the way I prioritise life and work, and helped me avoid burnout.

Something you wish you’d known earlier in your career:

How important public speaking is.
It opens doors, elevates confidence, and builds visibility.

What advice would you give someone starting out in this field?

In AI, it’s not just about understanding the technology. You need to understand the process, the customer, the stakeholders, and the real-world problemThat’s where true value is created.

How do you approach building strong, trusted relationships with our clients?

By treating your customers in a way that you want to be treated. That means by standing by your word (and your work), giving sound advice, and focussing on the long-term relationship.

What’s one thing you believe sets Wild Tech apart for our customers?

For our size, and what we offer, and how we engage, I know we a truly unique. But if you scratch under the surface, you’ll find that a unique quality is that we don’t shy away from complex projects

How do you ensure the customer experience stays at the heart of your work?

Without Customers there is no Wild Tech.

Celebrating 5 Years at Wild Tech

Congratulations on reaching 5 years with Wild Tech! Looking back, what’s been your most memorable moment and what are you looking forward to most?

Most memorable moment: The day we outgrew our first office: I was walking into the office, everyone was on the phone, the air was electric. I knew then that we were going places.

What I’m looking forward to: I’m looking forward to seeing what the next 5 years holds. I expect big things from AI and I know that we are well positioned to ride this wave.

Final thoughts

One thing I want to emphasise, and this is genuine

I really enjoy what I do: I enjoy my “work”, my role, and the people I work with. Going to the office has never been a chore. How many people can still say that about their job?
